When On the Doorstep was invited to the open day of local business, The Bra Boss of Kent, we were absolutely delighted and couldn’t wait to attend.
On the Doorstep blogger Amanda Evans AKA the Kentish Mummy attended a here’s what she had to say about the experience.
I recently attended the opening of The Bra Boss of Kent. After working in the Lingerie Industry for years, Joanna van Blommestein has turned her dream into reality by launching her own bra boutique shop in Faversham.
Joanna is a qualified advanced bra fitter and has a wealth of knowledge to share with her clients. Joanna focuses on fitting a wide variety of lingerie, including maternity, post-surgery and sports bras.
On the open day, various local businesses had been invited to come along and learn more about The Bra Boss of Kent. Joanna gave her guests a brief background of her 10-year lingerie career, from working on the shop floor as a bra fitter, to moving into wholesale as Area Sales Manager for various well known lingerie brands. She explained that her job involved lots of regular travel of up to 800 miles in a week visiting independent lingerie boutiques in the South East. Joanna’s lightbulb moment was when she had an idea to provide a more personalised one to one service in a comfortable and private setting, thus avoiding queues and ensuring a tailored session to her clients.
After much hard work, The Bra Boss head-quarters has officially opened its doors and is set in a serene and welcoming summerhouse in her garden. Clients are able to book an allocated time for a personalised fitting.
Given that an approximate 80% of ladies are wearing the wrong bra size, Joanna was able to highlight the importance of wearing the right shape and style of bra, which ensures you have a fantastic shape under your clothes, whilst providing the right support, and most importantly is comfortable.
I attended a bra fitting a week later and it was so refreshing to have a one to one fitting in a tranquil environment. Joanna was able to select a suitable bra for me by eye, and the first bra I tried on was the most perfect fit. I was so impressed that unlike other bra fittings, she didn’t even need to measure me, such is her attention to detail that she was able to select suitable and comfortable options. Joanna explained the variance between materials and styles and also how to gauge a good fit. She recommended a range of styles and I was able to try them all on, and I was so pleased with them all that it was a challenge to narrow it down. I purchased three bras, and I feel that for the first time ever, I have found the most comfortable bras.
Since opening, Joanna has been kept very busy with bookings and it having experienced a fitting myself, her passion and knowledge comes across in that she finds joy helping customers get it right.
If you are struggling to find a bra that fits you comfortably, or can’t remember the last time you were fitted, then it is probably time you treated yourself to an appointment, in which case The Bra Boss is your first port of call.
Notes – I was kingly gifted my bra fitting session by Joanna. A bra fitting appointment costs £10
