Flutterby Music Red Butterflies (18mth-3yrs)
This is an active class for children attending with their parent/carer with lots of movement, circle dances and musical activities that focus on keeping the beat along with activating the ‘inner-ear’ and developing a good sense of pitch. Music and the development of musical skills is at the very centre of each and every carefully planned class. Without realising it, the children are learning about music through songs and rhymes chosen to highlight the week’s concept (fast-slow, high-low, loud-quiet etc). Props, instruments, movement, actions, games and dances all help to imbed the concept and physicalise it.
As they become more independent, we encourage more of a response (if they are ready for this!), and some children are confident enough to start to sing within the class. We frequently ask the children for their ideas and choices (for actions, for the next movement, food for Harry Hare to eat etc) so that they are fully engaged and included in what happens within the class. Every week we meet Daddy, Mummy and Baby Bear in Musicland, try out a variety of percussion instruments and develop our imagination through the story within the songs.
